LONDON - TED GOES TO gAyTP

We got our drunk metrosexual friend Ted to write about his time at the ATP vs Pitchfork music festival this past weekend. Here's what he sent in:
Hi! I'm Ted. I'm the one wearing a pink T-shirt, flesh-coloured shorts, and luminous green socks. I had never been to ATP before, but I decided to go to this one because 14 of my best buddies were all staying in one (six bed) chalet. I also heard it might be sunny and there would be lots of beer and girls. I wore this stupid outfit in the hope that looking like the funnest guy at the festival might get me laid.

You might think that growing up in a country that didn't get around to outlawing slavery until the 60s and where even thinking about getting into a girl's abaya will land you a round of public lashings (and her death) would temper a young man's wild streak. However, as this new Saudi fad attests, when you let a whole nation's worth of pent-up testosterone bake in the hot Arab sun it leads to forms of teen rebellion that make Western kids look like they're still hocking buckeyes at the town farmer's prize milkin'-cow. Even their national aggro-driving has got a leg-up on ours.

New York - Repeal Day

Tomorrow is the 73rd anniversary of the repeal of the Volstead Act, the day America came to its senses and ended Prohibition. While the prospect of a dry society appealed to a number of civic-minded organizations (such as the Klan), its reality fell a weee bit short of all the noble intentions, sparking both organized crime and the artistic set's involvement with drug-centric Negro jazz culture while simultaneously draining tax revenue from the agencies in charge of fighting these twin menaces. Hat trick! Another funny effect Prohibition had was bolstering the nation's rate of wife abuse, one of the exact problems the Temperance League claimed it would solve. Sigh, good time. Anyways, here's a little chuckler featuring TVCarnage's Big Pinky in honor of the occasion.

The hottest homemade sex video in the world right now comes from the unlikely source of Iran. Move over Paris Hilton, step forward Zahra Ebrahimi. Star of the Islamic Republic's biggest soap opera, Zahra always appeared a pious girl, never seen without a headscarf and full-length frock. So you can imagine what a surprise it was to see the 25-year-old whip off the burqa and get buckwild. Grainy footage allegedly featuring Ebrahimi going at it with her ex-fiance is selling out in Tehran's blackmarket bazaars and has been downloaded 1 million times in the past week. Iran's strict Mullah lawmakers don't dig amateur porn and are itching to stone someone, or at least lash some whip...

Smoking Ban

Good news people with lungs: Smoking will be banned in all pubs, clubs, and offices in England, it was announced yesterday. From July 1 2007, all enclosed public places and workplaces will be smoke-free. All cigarette puffing will have to be done outside. The result of this will be an estimated 600,000 people giving up, the government predicts. 

Despite all the campaigns over the years, people have continued to smoke. These commercials are shocking at the time but don't seem to make that big a difference. So why do people still continue to smoke? Because smoking is way cool, douchebags.

Blip Fest

Blip music – or bitpop or 8-bit or chiptune music – gets its own four-day US festival this weekend with the inaugural Blip Festival in New York. It’s not exactly new, nor a phenomenon, nor a craze sweeping any nation any time soon, but there are a lot of guys out there who enjoy making shrill, cheap-sounding electronic pop music on old Commodore 64s, Ataris and Game Boys, and now they can all get together and discuss the future of circuit-bending...
